2025-26 Project Cloud Chamber
Cosmic particles continuously reach Earth in vast numbers — originating from the sun, supernovas, colliding neutron stars, and black holes. These particles interact with the atmosphere, creating cascades of new particles and gamma rays. Natural background radiation is also present in the air and soil. In 2025, I built my first cloud chamber — a transparent vessel containing a supersaturated environment of isopropanol and dry ice. When a charged particle passes through, it ionizes the molecules and triggers condensation, forming visible trails of tiny droplets. Electrons, muons (matter), positrons, and anti-muons (antimatter) each leave distinctive tracks. These sudden, delicate white lines — appearing and vanishing in moments — are recorded in film and photography. I am currently working with stills from these films, integrating them into ceramic pieces.
